Dr. Nigel I. Kennedy MD PhD
Dr. Kennedy MB BS, Ph.D. is a licensed physician, certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as a Specialist in the field of Psychiatry.
Prior to completing specialist training in Psychiatry at Mount Sinai in New York, Dr. Kennedy completed Medical and Foundation Training in the UK and specialized in the field of Neurosurgery.
He was awarded his Ph.D. in Neurogenetics in 2006 from Imperial College London, having received a grant from the Medical Research Council of the United Kingdom. His research characterized genetic variants associated with schizophrenia. Dr. Kennedy graduated from St. George's Medical School, University of London in 2009. Having completed Foundation Training working at two major London hospitals, he then moved to Bristol where he specialized within the Department of Neurosurgery at Frenchay Hospital.
Dr. Kennedy completed his Psychiatry residency on the Physician-Scientist track at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York, recognized as one of the best psychiatric programs in the country, where he graduated as Co-Chief Resident for research.
Dr. Kennedy has practiced as an Inpatient Psychiatrist at Rockland Psychiatric Center, under New York State Office of Mental Health where he collaborated with several scientific research programs at the Nathan Kline Institute. During this time, Dr. Kennedy was appointed as an Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University.
Dr. Kennedy has also served as Unit Chief of the Geriatric Psychiatry Unit at The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City, where he provided teaching and training for medical students and residents alongside his clinical duties.
Dr. Kennedy continues to hold an academic appointment as Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
